It could be goodbye to all that speaker wire spaghetti. British company New
Transducers (also called NXT) is well known for its flat-panel hi-fi speaker.
Now the company is patenting (WO 00/05920) a wireless speaker based on the same
technology. A chessboard-style matrix of small panels is hung on a frame. Each
panel is made of piezoelectric foil which pulses to produce sound waves when it
receives a radio or infrared signal sent from a transmitter across the room.
