Video surveillance tapes run for many hours, but gaps in the coverage
inevitably appear when the tape is changed or rewound. Mitsubishi bridges the
gap by automatically recording onto memory chips during the interruption (GB 2
342 760). The machine senses when the tape is coming to an end, and dumps the
signals into its memory. When the tape is ready to start recording again, the
memory transfers its stored images onto the tape at slightly higher than normal
speed. When the memory empties, the machine seamlessly switches back to
recording directly onto tape.
