The idea of a cellphone in a wristwatch has been around for a while, but
compressing all the circuitry down to an acceptable size has proved difficult.
Now Motorola of Illinois wants to put flexible electronic circuits inside the
strap (GB 2355881). This leaves room for bigger batteries in the watch body,
extending the phone’s talktime. Motorola says you can dial the number by talking
into a microphone on the strap, and the phone will have a pull-out earpiece.
Alternatively—in true James Bond style—the watch could beam sound by
radio or infrared signals to a hidden speaker in a finger ring you hold next to
your ear.
