Review: What Bugged the Dinosaurs? by George Poinar Jr. and Roberta Poinar

George and Roberta Poinar explore the interactions between dinosaurs and insects

IN THIS age of dino-mania, the interactions between dinosaurs and insects seems a promising premise for a book. The Poinars clearly know their insects, and they write colourful scenarios of how blood-sucking bugs dined on dinosaurs. But though the book is fun at times, I found it hard to take some details seriously – such as the idea that insects contributed to the demise of the dinosaurs. It reminded me of another entertaining combination: the old movie Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein.
