Review: The Dog Allusion by Martin Rowson

Pets and religion have a lot in common, apparently

HUMANS love pets, and many of us also love gods, often irrationally, without caring that they don’t love us in return. This comparison of pets to religion provides Rowson with his title – a pun of unit-shifting power if ever there was one. As Rowson says, this is more of a rant than a book, but it’s an erudite, entertaining, informative and sometimes spectacularly rude rant. Sure, religion is irrational, but being irrational is part of what makes us human. Rowson says he wouldn’t believe in God even if His existence were proved, as he doesn’t want to: he doesn’t like the cut of God’s jib, apparently.
