You vs Dr Fill: Holiday computer crossword competition

We hope you found your brain suitably teased by computer scientist Matthew Ginsberg’s artificial-intelligence crossword setter, Dr Fill (New Scientist, 20/27 December 2014, p 75, or online as “Try the hardest crossword ever set by a computer“). This friendly AI wrote the puzzle above for us. If you are confident that your wet organic matter has the match of cool hard silicon, this is where you get the chance to submit your answers – with the chance to win a prize.

To enter, simply send us your answers in an email with the subject line “New Scientist crossword competition”. You can submit a photo or a scan of your completed crossword, or a clearly numbered list of answers divided into “ACROSS” and “DOWN” clues.

The first correct entry drawn out of the hat on 6 January 2015 will win a selection of New Scientist‘s bestselling books, including the most recent, Question Everything. Only subscribers and registered users are eligible to win: registration is free and no purchase is necessary.

The full set of answers will be printed on the Letters page of our 17 January issue. Good luck!
