JOGGERS have unwittingly revealed the locations of secret military bases by sharing their running routes using the fitness-tracking app Strava.
On Monday, it emerged that 鈥渉eat maps鈥 released by the company, which show the aggregated routes of runners around the world, reveal the outlines of military facilities traced by people running around their perimeters.
The maps show a popular running route along a river in Pyongyang, North Korea, as well as the outline of an embassy compound in the city. US military bases are also shown, including Camp Lemonnier near Djibouti City, from which drone strikes into Yemen and Syria are launched. But the maps also reveal more sensitive information. Jogging routes near the camp trace a compound that doesn鈥檛 appear on normal maps.It is thought to be a CIA 鈥渂lack site鈥.

Strava has defended its right to publish the data because users had already made it public, and suggests military users opt out of the heat map.
