This week, I’ve been on a reading spree, ripping through four great books of varying vintages.
First up was by Curtis Sittenfeld (who wrote Rodham, a brilliant alternative history of Hillary Clinton). It’s, well, a romantic comedy, but it morphs into a pandemic novel – my first, I realise.

was next: a powerful story about a mysterious young woman on a sheep farm, with fantastical elements, and an interesting way with timelines. Nail-biting.
My third was by Penelope Fitzgerald, who died in 2000. You can see why this short, elegant story about a woman who sets up a bookshop in a small town was nominated for the Booker prize.
I also reread probably my favourite sci-fi book, A World Out of Time by Larry Niven. For a short book, it packs in so much.

No plays or films this week, but I am watching . This is the way – which you won’t get unless you watch The Mandalorian!
