On Sunday, 18 July, Channel 4’s Equinox explores Jurassic Park Revisited.
The programme examines the problems that scientists might encounter in
recreating animals that have been extinct for millions of years from
fragments of ancient DNA preserved in amber. It promises a lively dose of
reality to counter the pinch of science in Jurassic Park. The weekend on
Channel 4 will be overrun with dinomaniacs: from a history of dinosaurs in
the movies, origami dinosaurs, some great bad movies – Son of Godzilla,
Dinosaurus and The Land That Time Forgot – to a discussion of why they
fascinate us. Sunday also sees the launch of a free information service,
Science Line on 0800 600 444. Open from 5.30 to 10 pm on 18 July, and during
the day on 19 July, scientists including Angela Milner of the Natural
History Museum and David Norman from the University of Cambridge will answer
all your dinoquestions. It is a pilot for a national science information
service and is supported by the Wellcome Trust for a year, as part of a
consortium including Channel 4 and the Science Museum, London.
