EUROPE has long seen tuberculosis as a disease of the past, prevalent in times of poverty and primitive health systems. But unless the region raises its game, it could see a resurgence of this often fatal disease.
Across 13 western European countries just 74.4 per cent of TB cases are cured – only fractionally more than the 73 per cent cured across Africa. That’s well below the target of 85 per cent set by the World ÎçÒ¹¸£Àû1000¼¯ºÏ Organization, and way behind China, which cures 91 per cent of sufferers.
