Elizabeth Hlavinka

Bio

Elizabeth Hlavinka is a science journalist based in Costa Rica. She focuses on health and the environment. Hlavinka graduated with a degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018. Shortly after, she joined MedPage Today as a staff writer, focusing on disparities and systemic abuses within healthcare. In 2021, the National Press Foundation granted her the Poverty and Inequality Award for a series she co-produced about how the covid-19 pandemic impacted child welfare. 

Since going freelance in 2021, her work has appeared in various outlets, including New Scientist, Atmos, Salon and Atlas Obscura
